Ewa Kundid OT Reg.(Ont.)

Holds a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy degree from Queen’s University. She is in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario. She has over 15 years of experience working as an Occupational Therapist in acute, rehab and community care settings, helping adults and older adults regain and optimize their function, in the context of various medical conditions. For a number of years, Ewa worked in a hospital rehabilitation setting, helping individuals with chronic conditions, or those recovering after a surgery/ injury, to engage in their daily meaningful activities by providing various strategies, adaptations and coaching. Ewa also worked in the Medical Psychiatry program, helping individuals whose mood was impacted as a result of chronic pain, or other medical conditions. She continues to work on developing individualized, specific goals to help people get back to rewarding activities they used to enjoy, but stopped as a result of feeling depressed or anxious.

Ewa especially enjoys working with individuals with dementia and their caregivers/families. Her special interest is supporting families, or caregivers of loved ones living with dementia, focusing on non-pharmacological approaches to dementia care and providing them with self-care tools and resources, as well as coaching on meaningful activity participation and positive/effective communication strategies, incorporating Gentle Persuasive Approaches and Montessori principles, to decrease caregiver stress and behavioural responses of people with dementia. As a clinician, she continues to grow and expand her knowledge
to provide the best care for patients facing many complex physical and mental health problems.

Why Occupational Therapy?

Occupational Therapy focuses on helping people with various physical, cognitive or mental health problems regain independence in different areas of their life (self-care, productivity, leisure). It focuses on maximizing function and quality of life. With over 15 years of experience working as an OT, I support adults with various physical, cognitive, or mental health issues who want to participate in their meaningful daily activities, whatever they may be. I use a holistic and collaborative approach to assessing strengths and areas of challenge, prioritizing meaningful goals, and incorporating evidence-based interventions for adults with a range of physical and mental health challenges to help them engage in the activities they want to do, like to do, and/or are expected to do. I offer individualized assessment, consultation for personalized strategies, as well as ongoing coaching and counselling. Interventions in the area of physical health may include energy conservation strategies for chronic conditions, falls prevention education, sleep hygiene, environmental adaptations, assistive devices, therapeutic exercise, cognitive strategies for memory / attention difficulties. Interventions for mental health include Engage Therapy/behavioural activation for low mood, coping strategies for anxiety, counselling / health teaching on relapse prevention and healthy lifestyle management.
